Summer Landscaping Tips

Summer is officially here, and with it the heat and humidity has arrived! Everyone is bound to be spending a lot of time outside this season, which is why it's more important than ever that you keep your lawn and landscaping looking fresh and well maintained throughout the next few months.

Unfortunately, as the temperature rises and the sun’s rays feel stronger, summer proves to be one of the most difficult times of the year to grow plants and keep your lawn looking nice. Plants tend to wilt and wither and soil can start to become too dry.

Don’t panic - we're sharing with you some great summer tips to help your landscaping (and you!) make it through the summer months!

Stay hydrated. This goes for both you and your lawn! Make sure that you're watering everything regularly, whether this means investing in a new irrigation system or being diligent in doing so yourself. This time of year, we can't rely on the rain to keep our landscaping properly hydrated. Additionally, if you're going to be outside mowing your lawn or tending to your garden, make sure that you are drinking plenty of water to avoid dehydration.

Start Early. This tip is also twofold! First, don't wait until you see signs of dehydration in your lawn and landscape to start worrying about it. Even if everything is still looking as it should, now is the time to meet with your landscaper to discuss a maintenance plan for the summer. Second, the best time to water and work in your yard is early in the morning. It's cooler outside, which means that water won't evaporate as quickly and you'll be at a far lower risk of overheating.

Trim Trees. With summer storms on the horizon, make sure that the trees in your yard have been properly trimmed. Falling branches can cause a lot of damage to your property and also pose a safety hazard if not properly dealt with. If you're uneasy about doing this yourself, make sure that you contact a professional to take care of it for you.

Consider other landscaping options. Let's face it: even with a certified landscaping team, this summer heat can be detrimental to many lawns. If you're finding it difficult to keep plants thriving on your property, now is a great time to consider other landscaping options! A newly designed and implemented hardscape could be just what your property needs to give your landscaping a fresh and modern look. Accentuated by a few hardy plants, hardscaping eliminates the need for intensive landscape maintenance and completely changes your outdoor living experience.
